Hey. I finally made the first move into video synth
I just order a Prismatic Ray and now I am going to order Chromagnon, Bridge and Sensory Translator. I would like also to add Curtain or Staircase. I have to choose between one of the 2 because of the limited budget at the moment. The case is going to be a Tip Top Mantis.
I have read on the fb page that Chromagnon has a “Love child or Mapper and Staircase” feature.
I imagine It won’t be flexible like having a dedicate Staircase module, but if this is confirmed it will be better to start with Curtain? What do you think?
Sorry for the basic question but I am totally new to all this and try to figure out which choice makes more sense.
Chromagnon has a lot of full wave rectifiers (each stage inside staircase is one such unit). But chromagnon does not have any filters like curtain. I would go with curtain to add some new flavors.
Hey guys. Totally noob here and first post. Excited to begin my foray into video synthesis!!
Rather than start a new thread, I thought I’d just tack this here. Hope that’s ok.
I’m in a similar situation, but trying to figure out how best to compliment a Chromagnon + Memory Palace combo. Bearing in mind that I have a few modulation sources already, if you had 30hp to work with, what additional modules would you recommend? Really tempted by Diver so far.
Diver is a great choice. Aside from adding a lot more animation and modulation to your system, you have the added bonus of audio reactivity. There are also a number of proposed features for the module that will make it indispensable.
Aside from that, I’d recommend for your system:
Arch - great way to add variety to your ramps from Chromagnon
Doorway - extra keys are always dandy
Bridge - helpful to convert your audio signals to 1V, plus it has a mixer and crossfader
It looks like Diver has to be connected to the Chromagnon via sync, but I was planning on having them in two separate skiffs. So, back to square one. Any suggestions?
do you have some kind of recordable/loopable CV source I know LFOs can fill this gap but drawing your modulation with escher sketch is a blast…but it also requires sync
if you are planning on doing some processing keying stuff I would say a fun module I don’t see represented too much could be topogram
no sync
luma can come from MP and then you’ve got tons of video rate signals for all the video rate inputs on chromagnon… or the other way around and going into the A&AUX inputs on MP from chromagnon
Cool cool. I was planning on them effecting each other. Those seem like a couple of great solutions! I guess I’d need to be able to drill a small hole in the side of each skiff for the RCA coupler, but that wouldn’t be too hard.
I haven’t looked into the Topogram yet. Will research now! Thanks, wednesdayayay!
Another option I’m now considering is cancelling my skiff orders, which aren’t in stock right now anyways, and focusing on obtaining a 6u case instead.
it is very nice to have things all together
right now I’ve got all my sync stuff in a vessel case and then a processing 3u rack I haven’t even really tried since I mounted the modules (just not enough space at home)
I may not end up getting a 6u case, and am not sure about drilling, so I’m curious to know what you might recommend if I end up avoiding anything with sync. For example do you think an Arch, Staircase, and Doorway would go well with the MP + Choma combo?
I’m beginning to think I just need to wait until I see some video examples of what’s going to be achievable with the Chromagnon before I consider adding more, but at the same time, it’s fun to imagine the various combinations I can come up with for the space I have available.
