Audio input in modular systems

I am planning to start a small modular system using Gen 3 modules to do some of what Vidiot can do, but I don’t need video input. I only need audio input.

I’m thinking of starting out with DWO3, DSG3, and ESG3. I want to be able to use audio input signals, though. How could that be done?

Thanks for any info you can provide!!

Search “envelope follower” on this forum or the LZX Discord and you’ll find the answers you need.

Thanks! It looks like there are a lot of options, which makes sense. Aural Scan sounds amazing. Now I’m wondering how the Vidiot does it, and whether I can just use something like Proc to reduce the voltage.

Vidiot’s audio input feeds into an envelope follower:

Proc can attenuate, yes, if processing sound with an audio eurorack voltage range (0-5v) envelope follower. Very useful module to have, period.

find a 2nd hand LZX Sensory Translator

Another expansive option would be : an audio input module, bandpass filters for extracting bass / mid / high + some envelope followers* to make a very flexible modular setup to finetune incoming audio to control signals
A voltage scaler can scale those signals* to 0-1v

I use a Doepfer a-119 audio input, the Serge Resonant EQ mk2 + a 5x DIY Envelope follower module for this.

I use a Doepfer A119 External Input (envelope follower) and usually a lowpass filter to remove the upper frequency information which can make the signal twitchy when applied to graphics.
It also has a gate out which can be utilized for deriving tempo if you get the gain and threshold just right.

I have the a-119 and a befaco instrument interface…

the befaco one has some extras - phantom power, xlr combo jack as well as an envelope follower and gate extractor
