Hi there I am pretty much brand new to this world (so forgive my ignorance) and I had a general question about getting a working setup for capture.
I am ultimately wanting to create analog video art work, capture it and then bring it into my computer to post to youtube, instagram, vimeo etc.
As I am working through the tutorial videos on the LZX youtube I was wondering:
Theoretically: If I am wanting to track down a Vidiot second hand, a Blackmagic Design Teranex Mini Analog to SDI and a Blackmagic Design Video Assist HDMI/6G-SDI Recorder / 5" Monitor will I be able to play around and make work, capture it and bring it into my mac?
Welcome to the mysterious world of analog video synthesis. Analog to SDI plugged into a Video Assist is great way to capture. If you search on the forum, you will see there are many options out there for composite video capture. For example, the simplest method is filming a screen with your phone. With so many devices available to record video, the choice comes down to which form factor and method fits your workflow, desired aesthetic, and budget. There is a capture choice for every variable in that equation.
Thank you Z0NK0UT! Would a Vidiot to Analog to SDI plugged into a Video Assist also require a TV? or would the monitor on the Video Assist display the Vidiot?
And thank you for the welcome i’m excited to dig into the forum!
The monitor would show the Vidiot’s output, yes. An extra TV (or other composite monitor) is handy for Vidiot’s feedback workflow (which involves sending Vidiot’s luma output to a monitor and filming the monitor with a composite camera that is sent to Vidiot’s video input).
