Doorway gain question

Hi. The knob on the doorway’s gain says 1X to 64x. But if it’s set all the way down to 1X then the threshold has no effect. Isn’t it true that if it was really 1X the threshold would still have an affect? Or is there something more fundamental I’m not understanding?

there should be no effect at 1*

gain is just basic multiplication

if you have an input of 1 and multiply it by 1 you still get 1

if you have an input of 0.1 and multiply by 1 you still have 0.1
